Lectors – Proclaimers of the Word of God
Lectors, sometimes called readers, are called to proclaim the Word of God at our liturgies. By reading aloud the Sacred Scriptures chosen by the Universal Church for our worship together, they are a living sign of our unity in Christ. Our Lectors come forth from the Assembly during the Eucharist and other celebrations, thus manifesting the full participation of the laity in the liturgical life of the parish. Lectors must have developed a love of Sacred Scripture and a desire to share its joys with others. Lectors should have strong speaking voices, with the ability to project and express vibrantly the saving life of the Word of God, should be comfortable in public speaking situations, and show a willingness to accept training and to grow in presentation skills.
